The Financial Management Group (FMG) is part of the Phoenix Group with responsibility for the development and implementation of investment strategies and ALM frameworks for the Group’s shareholder business c.£15bn predominantly fixed income.

As an Investment Strategy Analyst you will enjoy a broad based role using your quantitative experience and knowledge to develop and implement modelling solutions to measure and report key investment metrics.

You will have an active role in implementing and supporting technology to measure and report financial risk. You will also be involved in supporting FMG’s objectives in developing and implementing investment strategies and frameworks in the following areas:

  • Asset/ALM risk inventory and reporting
  • Investment strategy/strategic asset allocation
  • Support M&A activities
You will also contribute by taking responsibility for model and process design, development, deployment and maintenance. You will use your communication and team building skills for education and transfer of model developments to Investment Risk team for ongoing operation. You will also be involved in things like: 
  • supporting other members in the development of asset allocation and risk management initiatives including the testing and validation of specific investment plans and ALM solutions  
  • supporting other members of FMG in creating investment updates to Group Board to inform them of market conditions, asset classes, and other matters influencing investment strategy
  • supporting the review, challenge and improvement of Phoenix Life risk and solvency model techniques, practices and outputs and M&A transactions
What we are looking for: You will possess some high quality technical qualifications relevant to modelling financial instruments and ideally be from a related financial services or banking background with a good understanding of capital and accounting standards and implications. It would be useful if you have worked at a Rating Agency or have been involved in taking assets from conceptual stage. You should be able to demonstrate:
  • Fluency with quantitative toolkits/systems such as VBA, Matlab, Bloomberg, C++, other analytical data tools
  • Experience of Database management system and SQL preferred
  • Knowledge of Financial Information System Software such as Fincad / Aladdin preferred
  • Experience in developing modelling solutions
  • Knowledge of the key risk characteristics across a broad range of asset classes, e.g. equity, fixed income, derivatives and property You will also have proven strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide challenge, respond to challenges and work with a wide range of people to deliver objectives.
