Based in Life Legal and reporting to one of the Life Legal leadership team, your role will act as a Life Legal transactional lawyer and negotiator for bulk purchase annuities on behalf of Life Legal. On a day to day basis, this will involve:

  • To provide legal advice to senior members of the Life companies with the primary focus on bulk annuity transactions, including but not limitedrestructuring of key assets and new investments that are required for the bulk annuity business.
  • To lead on the legal workstream for all bulk annuity work.
  • To ensure the achievement of outcomes and deliver against deadlines; taking ownership of such delivery by influencing key stakeholders, advisers and governance bodies
  • To provide clear written advice/board papers pitched at executive management level with ability to provide clear executive summaries
  • To lead negotiations on behalf of Legal providing detailed updates to the Director of Life Legal and discuss a joint approach with him 
  • To identify and mitigate risks within transactions

As Senior Legal Advisor, you must be qualified and have a strong financial services background – with relevant exposure to Life & Pensions and Bulk Purchase Annuity deals ideally gained in-house but private practice experience will also be considered if you have focused on FS – who can demonstrate:

  • Proven transactional record with responsibility for leading Bulk Purchase Annuity transactions
  • Strong leadership with significant personal credibility
  • Proven ability to write board papers/advice notes for executive management
  • Proven negotiating experience
  • Strong commercial strategic understanding (e.g. ability to read company accounts, align transactional outcomes with strategic objectives)
  • Experience of liaising with executive management/director level and presenting to boards/committees
  • Knowledge of the Solvency II Matching Adjustment regime is desirable.
